First Gear Friday allows you to relive the times when driving was the milestone you were waiting to hit! One of our youngest Cruisers, Gabe, gives us his impressions as a new driver with a love for all things automotive.

A teen driver

I just a completed a pivotal moment in my life: getting my driver's license. Ever since I turned 15 and passed my written exam, I haven't been able to wait for the next six months to go by to begin behind-the-wheel training. I was entering a great adventure by learning how to do Y-turns, parallel parking, lane changes, and backing up. Keeping a constant driving speed in traffic is more difficult than I thought. Driving for the very first time is nerve racking because you don’t know how to handle every situation. However, when I was halfway through I felt like I could take the driver's test. Although it was a lot of fun for me, it was more stressful for my parents. I’m sure I contributed to a few more grey hairs on their head.

Now I feel how different cars handle and can understand why people would like to customize them. This has developed into a passion of mine to modify vehicles for clients' specific desires for their personal cars, from models ranging from utilitarian to exotic. This whole experience has sparked a desire for me to get into the automotive industry.
