On November 15, 1977, Ford made history when the 100,000,000th Ford rolled off the assembly line in Mahwah, New Jersey. The very special car, built during the Ford Motor Company’s 75th Anniversary year, was a 1978 Ford Fairmont Futura.

The factory was immense and occupied over 172 acres of land. The factory began production in 1955 and was closed in 1980. Vehicles built at the Mahwah plant included the Ford Edsel, Ford Fairmont, Ford Galaxie, Ford Granada, Ford LTD, Ford Thunderbird, Lincoln Capri, Lincoln Premiere, Lincoln Versailles, Mercury Colony Park, Mercury Meteor, Mercury Monarch, Mercury Montclair, Mercury Monterey, and Mercury Turnpike Cruiser.
Ford's still at the top of the game in production; the company had the top two plants in terms of auto production in 2011.
