There’s no city quite like New Orleans: the music, the food, the history. It all converges into a city whose vibrant culture defines the very essence of fun and celebration! At the heart of this southern jewel sits the world-famous Bourbon Street.

Bourbon Street extends 13 blocks in the middle of the French Quarter in New Orleans, a destination known for its rich past.

Every year people flock to Mardi Gras to celebrate Fat Tuesday, the last night of celebration and fun before Ash Wednesday. Bourbon Street comes alive every year with an amazing parade, bar hopping, and people going completely crazy for plastic beads. Mardi Gras may bring you to New Orleans but Bourbon Street has a few more secrets to offer.

As we continue down Bourbon Street, we come upon the legendary Preservation Hall. Located at the corner of Bourbon and Peter Street, this historic music venue is home to the incredible Preservation Hall Jazz Band. You can check out a show most nights of the week, and the band’s been blowin’ its horns since the 1960’s. During the time of Preservation Hall's incarnation, New Orleans was a racially segregated community under Jim Crow laws. Preservation Hall was among the few venues in New Orleans that welcomed both Caucasian and African-American musicians. The band tours the world, but nothing beats seeing them play on their own turf.

Of course, we can’t talk about New Orleans without talking about food. Amazing food. Delicious, delicious, food! There’s several places to choose from when you're roaming the streets of this gothic city. But when you’re on Bourbon Street, you have to duck inside Galatoire's for some gumbo. It’s been said you haven’t experienced New Orleans until you experienced a Friday lunch at Galatoire’s, The restaurant was founded in 1905 by Jean Galatoire at the same location it is today. Several years later, the restaurant has solidified itself as a staple of New Orleans dining.

And there you have it! Of course, there’s lots more to see and experience in New Orleans. Be sure to check out Cafe Du Monde for the amazing beignets, take in a tour of the haunted buildings that populate the streets, or go to Coops and munch on some crawfish etouffee. This city continues to evolve but the historic mystique that flows through the streets of New Orleans will live on forever. Now, you’re Streetwize!
