If you're looking to escape for a weekend, you can always take a one-tank trip outside of Las Vegas and visit the Bonnie Springs Ranch. You'll feel like a true pioneer in this old-style Nevada town. There are shows and attractions for children of all ages within the confines of this authentic experience wayyy off the strip.

Bonnie Springs Ranch was originally built in 1843 as a stopover for the wagon trains going to California down the Old Spanish Trail. In 1846, General Fremont, on his way to California, stopped at what is now Bonnie Springs Ranch to gear up for his trip through Death Valley. Since 1952, the ranch has been used as a tourist attraction.
Often called “an oasis in the desert”, you can stop for a cool drink of spring water. Today the grounds are a delight for locals and tourists alike. They also have a wide variety of animals both native and non-native, including wolves and Simba the Canadian lynx. They have a large stable of horses for your riding pleasure, pony rides for the kids and an adorable motel with fireplace rooms and Jacuzzi tubs. Don't forget about the amazing restaurants, where you and your family can feel like a real group of settlers as you feast on American delights.
So if the slot machines and card tables aren't being friendly, take a wagon train, or car, out to Bonnie Springs Ranch, where you and your family can enjoy the simpler things in a friendly, open air environment.
