Some picture cars are made with a specific purpose in mind. When one is contacted to make a “spooky” car for a television show, you know everything has to be precise. This was the task of George Barris at Barris Kustoms when approached by The Munsters. He designed the car, the Munsters' Koach was wheeled to the set, and the Koach appeared in over twenty episodes during the show's two-year run.

Unlike most television shows, the Munsters' Koach was one of a kind! There was only one car created. The car was created using three Ford Model Ts. Some have tried to recreate this intricate prop vehicle, but there's only one original. The engine of this ghoulish car was a 289 cubic-inch Ford V8 which was traditionally placed inside the AC Cobra. it was built with Jahn's high compression pistons, 10 chrome plated Hudson Jet carburetors, an Isky cam, and had a set of Bobby Barr racing headers. It had a three speed toploader.
Interestingly enough, the show's star Fred Gwynne didn't sit in the driver's seat. He sat on the floor on top of the ermine-fur rugs. But week after week people fell in love with this ghastly auto. It has gone down in history as one of America's most iconic cars, and now sits at the Huntington Beach Art Center.
