There are picture cars, and then there are legendary picture cars. In all of pop culture, there is probably no car more iconic to TV audiences than the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard. Not only was this car the main getaway for the Duke boys and Daisy, but it also was miraculously indestructible. This thing would jump over cop cars, cross gorges, and run through barns, yet it always seemed to bounce back and get the boys out of harm's way.

The car used in the film was a 1969 Dodge Charger. Its doors were welded shut so Bo and Luke would have to climb in through the window. The horn would screech out a Dixieland jingle and the burnt orange color made sure that the Duke boys were always noticed.

Needless to say there wasn't just one General Lee. Like most television programs and movies, there was one for driving, and a couple more for various stunts. One of the cars sits at Warner Bros Studios and is part of the backstage tour which is offered to the public. The other General Lees were sold at auction shortly after the series ended, but the General Lee will forever live on as one of America's most famous cars. Even though the show is over, the car's signature honk will forever be ingrained in our heads!
