The skunk ape remains one of Florida's biggest mysteries. This "Bigfoot of the South" is famous for its staggering height and its foul odor. Many report seeing this monstrous creature in the deepest parts of the Florida Everglades. But just what is this thing that lurks in the swamps of Florida? To find out, we'll have to look at some eyewitness accounts!

In 2000, two photographs said to be of the skunk ape were taken by an anonymous woman and mailed to the Sheriff's Department of Sarasota County, Florida. The photographs were accompanied by a letter from the woman in which she claimed to have photographed an ape in her backyard. The woman wrote that on three different nights, an ape had entered her backyard to take apples left on her back porch. She was convinced the ape was an escaped orangutan.
But is the skunk ape friend or foe? Like its more popular cousin Bigfoot, the skunk ape seems to be a wanderer. Trudging through the forest, looking for fallen fruits and berries, the skunk ape has never been reported to hunt or kill humans, but it has scared the bejesus outta them.
We'll never know for sure if this beast is a real cryptid or just some guy in a costume, but until there's definitive evidence, the myth will continue to live and breath!
