Hollywood is famous for its red carpets, larger than life parties, and its iconic sign in the hills. But there's a special place off the beaten path that many Angelenos consider to be just as iconic as these Hollywood staples: Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles!

This chain was started back in 1975 by Herb Hudson, a Harlem native who transplanted to Los Angeles. The success of the original Roscoe's spawned several other chains, but they are all located within the Los Angeles area. This gives the chain a hometown feel and its not uncommon to see lines around the corner just to get a taste of the delicious food.
The signature dish is of course the golden fried chicken and waffles. You can select white meat, dark meat, or both and the waffles are perfectly buttered and flaky.
The original location in Hollywood was popular with celebrities at the time. Natalie Cole would often invite her celebrity friends there. Redd Foxx would tell his audience that he liked going there. Recently it has been mentioned in several rap/hip hop songs and remains a popular destination for Hollywood celebrities trying to get away from the maddening crowds.
So if you're looking for something to eat in Hollywood that's a little different but amazingly delicious, look no further than Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles!
