Barbie is one of the most iconic dolls in the world. She's been a scuba diver, a surgeon, a business woman and everything in between. But what you might not know is this doll's humble beginnings. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts and she was born in Willows, Wisconsin.

That's right! Like most rags-to-riches stories, Barbie comes from a modest town and upbringing. Her parents were somewhat supportive and you can read more about Barbie's origin story at her website.

Barbie's sister Skipper recalls their upbringing. “Mom and Dad really put a lot of pressure on us,” Skipper recalls. “Anything less than an ‘A’ on a report card was bad news. Anything less then perfection was unacceptable.”

Barbie won a blue ribbon in the County Fair for her huckleberry pie. She was a cheerleader and homecoming queen at Willows High School, where classmates voted her “Most Likely to Own a Beach House in Malibu.”

From there, Barbie went on to become a model and subsequently became the mega star we know and love. She has been around for a long time but still looks as good as she did at age 18.

The people of Willow, Wisconsin are proud of their hometown hero and Barbie continues to impress and inspire people from all over the world. But no matter where Barbie's travels or careers take her, she'll always be a Midwestern girl at heart!
